Taking In The Summer Vibes | Six Flags Great Adventure
Six Flags Summer Vibes Festival Debuts At Great Adventure
Since becoming the new CEO of Six Flags, Selim Bassoul, has set the goal and put a strong focus on improving guest experience across the Six Flags chain. As part of these changes, on March 2nd, Great Adventure shared a whole list of Guest Enhancements including New Rides, Foods, Events & Animal Encounters for 2022. One of the items listed was a major summer event to be called the Summer Vibes Festival.
As sun-kissed dreams come to life, guests will drench themselves in a kaleidoscope of color at this new, summer festival, which will run July 16 to August 14. Mouth-watering treats, beat-the-heat beverages, bold, eye-popping spectacles, live entertainment, and colorful curiosities will immerse guests in the reverie of summer.
That was the description of what guest should expect from this new festival. Fast forward to Thursday July 21st and thanks to the awesome team at Six Flags Great Adventure we were invited to come experience The Summer Vibes Festival and all that it had to offer. We also had the opportunity to get our first rides on The Return of Medusa, the original floorless coaster. Here’s our recap of the day and all the things you can expect to see when you visit Six Flags Great Adventure during this fun summer event!
What Will You Find at the Summer Vibes Festival?
Glad you asked! Besides all of the awesome rides and attractions that Six Flags Great Adventure already offers the Summer Vibes Festival now adds six themed zones that each have special limited edition food options, unique entertainment and tons of photo spots to capture your visit.

Did You Say Limited Time Food & Drink Options?
To say that you have some new choices in food and drink options during the Summer Vibes Festival is an understatement. Throughout the park there are all sorts of new things to try and variations on park favorites to help keep the Summer Vibes flowing.
The park held a private Summer Yummers Sampling at Best of the West in Frontier Adventures to give us a chance to try just some of these limited time offerings. There are snacks like Sesame Terriyaki Wings & Korean BBQ Pulled Pork Loaded Chips. Meals like a Fried Chicken Mango Habanero Sandwich & Spicy Guacamole Chedder Burger and even unique Non-Alcoholic and Alcoholic Beverages.

Six Flags Summer Vibes 2022 Festival Guide
Even More For 2022?
Like we mentioned in the beginning, Six Flags Great Adventure announced several updates and improvements that would be coming to the park for the 2022 season. We’ve been focusing on the Summer Vibes Festival so what else is there? Here’s a couple brief highlights!
BATMAN™ The Ride
The epic, floorless, chairlift-style BATMAN The Ride has received a new bold, shiny coat of paint. This five-looping scream machine continues to rank as a fan favorite as it approaches its 30th birthday.
Renovation of the section formally known as Safari Kids. Jr. Thrillseekers is an area featuring rides that are perfect for parents to enjoy with their little ones, like Lil’ Devil Coaster—the kiddie counterpart to Jersey Devil Coaster!
Last But Not Least…..
The Return of Medusa
The World’s First Floorless Coaster has returned to its roots for 2022! The Wrath of Medusa features an updated storyline and an all-new color scheme to go with it.
In 1999 Medusa debuted at Six Flags Great Adventure as the world’s first floorless coaster designed and manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard. In 2009 Medusa received a large update and was transformed into BIZARRO with new effects like fire, a giant auger, Superman shields and on-board audio. For 2022 Medusa is back looking and running great! To get even more info on the transformation back to Medusa and the new Gold Rush-era backstory you can check out our previous post, Floorless Like It’s 1999, Medusa is Back.
As part of the awesome Summer Vibes Media Day that Six Flags Great Adventure provided, we had the chance to get several rides in on Medusa before the park opened and even through the entire morning as the park kept it closed to the public for those in attendance. Even better, with the park’s permission, we had the chance to film several vantage points of the ride including a reverse POV with Six Flags own Gabriel and SFNE Online’s Charles! Please take a few minutes and ride along with us through Exile Canyon!

Featuring Off-Ride Shots Along with Reverse Rider POV, Front Row POV and Back Row POV!
That’s a Wrap!
So, is it worth visiting Great Adventure to check out the Summer Vibes Festival running now through August 14th? We say simply YES!!!!! We had a really fun time visiting the park. Being the first time ever for this festival it was apparent that a lot of time and effort went into it. There are a ton, and we mean a ton, of really cool photo spots throughout the park. What they did inside the Showcase Theater is really unique so definitely stop in there too. We can’t wait to see this festival and hopefully even more special events grow at Great Adventure and at other Six Flags parks as well.
We talked about the focus that Six Flags is looking to put into the guest experience and as you walk around Great Adventure you can see this starting to happen. It’s not something that can instantly happen overnight but over the next several season it will be fun to hopefully watch the parks get some solid attention towards improvements. Talking about guest experience here’s something that stood out during our visit.
It was a super-hot day. I walked up to get a cup of water from a stand and found small glasses already poured and there for the taking. I thought to myself well that’s different. I didn’t have to wait in a line and then ask for one. Later on, I stopped at another location. Same thing! Needless to say, throughout the day I ended up seeing several places doing this. Seems so simple but it was certainly noticed by us, and it was a nice guest improvement on a really hot day.
Also, throughout the park the landscaping has definitely improved. There were flowers all over the place. Two coasters, BATMAN & MEDUSA have received fresh new coats of paint and the main reason we visited Great Adventure was to check out the new Summer Vibes Festival. We really hope to see these improvements continue and whatever else the new Six Flags management team has in mind for the future.
We again want to thank the amazing team at Six Flags Great Adventure for inviting SFNE Online to their Summer Vibes Media Event. We can’t wait to visit again soon. But for now…
